Dasha vs transits

Dasha is your personal 120-year timeline. Mahadasha and Antardasha periods follow the Moon’s nakshatra at birth. Transits are planets moving now, read against that natal chart. BodhiRishi computes both. They answer different questions. This page does not say which is stronger. Natal timing is one layer. The moving sky is another.

One is a clock you were born with. The other is the sky this week.

What dasha is

Vimshottari Dasha is the primary timing system in Vedic astrology. It maps a 120-year cycle divided among 9 planets.

Major periods (Mahadasha) last 6 to 20 years. Sub-periods (Antardasha) sit inside them. Each is ruled by a planet that influences different areas of your life.

The sequence is unique. It is determined by which lunar mansion (nakshatra) the Moon occupied at birth. It does not change because a planet is transiting a sign this month.

See What is Vimshottari Dasha for the cycle itself, and What dasha am I in? for how to view the active period.

What transits are

Transits are current planetary positions relative to your birth chart. They are “now” against “then.”

BodhiRishi’s AI astrologer reads current transits together with the active dasha and house placements. Daily and weekly readings, and annual forecasts, are based on your full birth chart and current transits, not sun-sign horoscopes.

Transits are not a second 120-year sequence. They do not replace Mahadasha and Antardasha. They are the present sky on top of the natal map.

How they sit together

You can be in a long Mahadasha while many short transits come and go.

You can ask about career, wealth, marriage, family, health, or timing. The useful answer names both: which dasha is running, and what is transiting the chart now.

BodhiRishi calculates the natal chart with the Swiss Ephemeris on our servers. Positions, nakshatras, strengths, aspects. Then it can show the life-periods timeline and current transits on that same chart.

The AI astrologer answers from that data, not a template, and not your sun sign.

This page does not rank dasha against transits. “Stronger” is not a sourced claim here.

Chart-specific, not a column

Vedic work uses the Sidereal zodiac and 27 nakshatras. Western sun-sign transits use the Tropical zodiac. Precession often shifts the Vedic sign one earlier.

A newspaper transit column is not your dasha. It is not your natal transits either, unless it was computed from your date, time, and place of birth.

Readings are AI-generated interpretations for insight and reflection, not medical, legal, or financial advice.

Questions

Is dasha the same as a transit?

No. Dasha is the natal 120-year timeline. Transits are planets moving now relative to that chart.

Which one should I follow?

BodhiRishi computes both. This page does not pick a winner.

Where do I see them?

Enter birth details at bodhirishi.ai. The chart includes the life-periods timeline and current transits.

What sets my dasha if transits keep changing?

The Moon’s nakshatra at birth. Transits do not reset that sequence.
